| Creating a Lead Generation Blog |
|
Why are you blogging? Just to hear yourself talk? I sure hope not. Most wise businesses are blogging with the goal of converting clients. But with so many blogs on the Internet today, how do you create a lead generation blog? Below are the dos and don'ts that will help you. Do Solve Problems - Why do our prospects search? They're looking for something. They are looking because they have a problem. Whatever these problems are you need to be solving. Rarely does a product or service professional solve only one problem for their clients, so blog about these problems and how you solve them. Be helpful and share good information, but please... Don't Sell - Writing every post where you begin with their problem and consistently segue into... "and our 3-Day Seminar will help..." is going to end your relationship before it begins. Prospects return to blogs that consistently offer them information. I realize that rubs many of you the wrong way. I can hear you saying, "But, if I give away all my knowledge they don't need me." Guess what? Just like the buffet, prospects tend to over-fill their plates and can't finish it all. When they keep reading your solutions and consistently find themselves not following up with your great advice, they will convert. Just give them time. Do Post Regularly - You must be consistent for prospects to decide you are worth doing business with. If you can't write a simple little blog post every week, how can you be trusted with their account? Many people blog "when they have time." As soon as anything else comes up, there goes that time. Schedule yourself. Do not miss your weekly post. Once you are up to weekly, add another for 2x/week then hopefully reach 3 or more times. More relevent posts drive more organic traffic providing more opportunities to convert. Do Try Other Media - Videos and photos make great blog material. Keep your camera ready for those opportunities when you find something relevant that can become a blog topic. It's important to always keep your topics in mind as you go through your day. You may read an article or see a website that spurs a post. Every blog platform allows you to save drafts. If you have an idea and no time to create a full post, save a draft with as much of your idea as possible and then come back. Just be sure to come back and complete the post every week.
