Want More Referrals? Make a Plan

With this being Make-A-Referral-Week, thinking seriously about how you give and receive referrals is an area often overlooked when setting goals.  If you are not a member of a former referral group that tracks progress, you might think that simply joining the chamber or attending networking mixers suffices. A fact made very clear by numerous networking gurus is looking at your VCP. Note: These go in order, but are not necessarily one directional!   Visibility - This simply means that someone knows you well enough that if you met on the street they could introduce you to someone by name and would know your business. If you are someone who "works-the-room" at networking events trying to meet as many people as possible, start trying to get 4 people to really "know" you. This is the sole purpose of those coffee dates you have.  Yes, business might transpire but your goal needs to be to inform that person on who you are, what you do and how you do it better than your competitors.  Also, make sure you learn the same about them.   Credibility - This comes over time through speaking opportunities, testimonials, business transacted and public relations.  You can build your public credibility by holding a leadership position in these groups and maintaining a professional appearance and attitude.  This can be a challenge for community entrenched business people like Realtors who the public expects to be "on" all the time.

Testimonials

I was going thru a marketing overhaul and Paula was an invaluable resource. I felt that I was so involved in my business that I might have lost touch with who my customers are, what matters to them, and the best features and benefits to promote in order to grab their attention.Paula helped me develop a Persona Chart, precisely targeting different segments of the market and defining their different persona, along with the benefits that would touch them the most. It is my basis for all marketing material being produced from now on.
